teacher apprenticeship

program mission:

The Boundless Yoga Teacher Apprenticeship Program (BYTAP) gives certified RYT 200 and RYT 500 (Registered Yoga Teachers) the opportunity to hone their skills as open or advanced level yoga instructors within a structured 6-month-long practical apprenticeship alongside a veteran teacher.

program guidelines:

I. Observation and Class Notes

A. Apprentices attend one of their mentor’s scheduled studio classes weekly. The apprentice will observe that class, take notes, and possibly assist the mentor.

B. The apprentice will synthesize the raw notes taken during observation into a clear, concise outline of the class, including the particular type of information required by the mentor.

II. Meeting with Mentor

A. The apprentice team meets bi-monthly with the mentor for a semi-private planning/review session to review notes, ask questions and get assistance in planning their own class.

B. Apprentices should come to these sessions prepared with their notes and questions for review.

III. Teaching

A. The apprentice teaches one weekly class. At the beginning of the program, the apprentice, mentor, and Boundless studio administrator will jointly agree upon whether the apprentice will be teaching a class at Boundless or a different location. The apprentice must teach a weekly class unless, in rare cases, a specific alternate arrangement is approved by mentor and studio administrator.

B. During their bi-monthly meetings, the mentor will help the apprentice sequence their upcoming classes.

C. Apprentices are fully responsible for the timeliness and integrity of their own weekly class, whether it is at Boundless or at another location.

IV: Written assignments to be completed by end of program

  • All raw mentor weekly class notes
  • All synthesized, clear class outlines posted to internal Boundless site
  • A global FAQ of student questions with answers based on feedback from mentor

VI. Application Requirements

  • Completion of Boundless approved 200 RYT or 500 RYT program
  • Personal interview with Kim and/or  Kristen
  • Some prior teaching experience preferred but not required

  • Learn and put into practice weaving themed classes together over 3-month (seasonal) periods of time
