As the first round of apprentices get ready to graduate, we are now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 term of DC’s first hands-on energy healer apprenticeship program. Led by Kim Weeks, Boundless Yoga founder and energy healer, this program will train you to experience and become a guide for the natural energy flow of the body.
You will learn to become a healing practitioner through this work.
summary and requirements
With rolling enrollment June-October 2009, the Boundless Energy Apprenticeship Program is accepting candidates for a small number of apprentice practitioners who will split their training between two semesters. Candidates must have either studied with Kim in energy therapy before, or have some understanding of some form of energy work (Reiki, for example).
It is essential that candidates also engage in some form of yoga practice (Patanjali’s Eight Limbs/Ashtanga; Karma; Bhakti) or other Eastern mind-body practice such as qi gong. It is also helpful (but not required) that the student be in psychotherapy or have worked in this modality previously.
The year-long program, and the life of an energy healer, must be rooted in regular meditation and mindful practices.
first semester: identifying strengths, weaknesses, and the ego
The goal of the first semester is for students to gain confidence reading energy. Fundamental energy flows in the body are often mistaken through the ego by emotions, namely fear and desire. Kim will work with each student to:
- learn to distinguish energy from ego-based attachment
- develop embodied meditation techniques based on the energies of the seven chakras
- develop grounding and protection techniques to be used daily
Note that each student is different and will each bring in energy through one of three areas: the third eye, heart, or abdomen. It is in the first semester that both Kim and the student identify the student’s spot of energy intake (positive) and retention (negative).
The first half of the program is intentionally set up for intensive self examination so the student can quickly learn the patterns keeping him/her from living in peace and living in stillness. Recognizing these patterns as they manifest is a fundamental requirement for calling yourself a healer and offering healing services to others.
second semester: practicum
During this time students learn the techniques of energy work. It is also during this time that students decide whether they will service their practice towards the public or simply keep the work inside a “healing circle,” i.e. close friends and community.
It is important to note that the Shamanic training on which much of this work is based comes from community-based healers who worked solely within very small physical confines.
The practicum aspect of this program trains the student to take on a healing perspective as driven specifically by her own individual karma (or DNA)–and to protect, nourish, and trust that perspective. The goal of the practicum is to empower the new healer to recognize this healing approach as their strongest asset in life.
time commitment, costs, and basic reading
The time commitment is 52 weeks with a one month study and meditation break chosen by the student and split up, if necessary, for vacations. The 52 weeks include:
- Monthly one-on-one sessions with Kim
- Three monthly group sessions that include a public lecture by Kim and hands-on work between apprentices
- Daily meditation, checked by Kim and discussed with her (right-brained learning)
- Readings, checked by Kim and discussed with her (left-brained learning)
The cost is $5000, paid in two installments of $2500 (beginning of first and second semesters).
The two books every practitioner will read are: Shaman, Healer, Sage by Alberto Villoldo and Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith. Students also must choose one tape or book by Carolyn Myss and will read two more books chosen in partnership with Kim.
