The seven chakras comprise the energetic field underlying the physical body; they correspond with the physical spine and its ganglia from head to coccyx. The chakras are also directly correlated to the body’s meridians, or energy lines, followed by acupuncturists.

In energy therapy sessions, the healer helps the client release tension, stress, holding patterns, and disease through the use of light touch, grounding techniques (usually at the feet), and gentle pressure through the fingers and palms. These techniques assist and direct a healing flow for the client. The session is intended to be as relaxing as physical massage. Depending on the client, however, sessions can feel physically and emotionally intense during and after the session because of the healing taking place.

A shamanic practice used for thousands of years, chakra energy therapy–like a similar body of work, Reiki–is useful for many types of issues: depression; anxiety; grief; confusion over life changes; autism; multiple sclerosis; cerebal palsy; general malaise; a feeling of being “stuck” in a job, relationship, or place; sexual frigidity; sexual issues; and other issues. Energy therapy is even great for relieving the common cold.

kim’s approach and training

Helping to define the physical body are several other “bodies” of existence. As Einstein proved, matter is neither created nor destroyed; it morphs into another form. Thus, physical blockages reflect in the body’s subtler form, the energy body, and energy “work” operates as a release of these blocks. As a result of chakra balancing, the physical, emotional, and subtle bodies can realign.

Kim’s energy practice is based in part on the Peruvian shamanic methods practiced and taught by Alberto Villoldo and JJ Gormley-Etchells. She also follows the guidance of Rose Khalsa, a local shaman living in Takoma Park, MD. Kim is deeply grateful for these teachers and also for her master teachers.
