Join Jennifer for a thorough exploration of yoga asana through the teachings of living yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar.

In this structured 10-week course, you will get:

  • a detailed understanding of how to perform and sustain basic and intermediate yoga poses
  • an understanding of the physical-physiological and mental-emotional benefits of basic and intermediate poses. For example, how standing poses work simultaneously on increased strength and flexibility of the outer physical structure, while inversions work more on the hormonal systems, balancing mood and physiological functioning of the body.
  • an increased awareness and focus that compound the inherent benefits characteristic of each pose

  • Through this course you will learn to:

  • improve the execution of your posture
  • build your ability to objectively observe, apply, and change the body by conscious choice
  • become architecturally sound in your body
  • improve your body systems’ smooth functionality
  • stabilize and improve the quality of your mind and life
  • The class is capped at 10 students for an intimate atmosphere where each student can feel comfortable to explore and transform, ask questions, and get personal attention from Jennifer

The course provides the structure and consistency needed to deeply learn and apply the system of yoga asana in a comprehensive way.

recommended for people with 6 months to 1 year, or more of regular yoga practice. if unsure, please contact jennifer at jenkarius(at)gmail.com

We are extremely lucky to have Jennifer with us. She has been studying yoga within the Iyengar tradition for 19 years and has studied personally with Master Iyengar and his son and daughter. She has taught extensively in the netherlands and in San Francisco, including several years at the Iyengar Institute in Amsterdam. Read more about Jennifer.

Insight yoga intensive with sarah powers

    powers.jpgA 3 day Intensive
    Friday night 6-8 p
    Saturday and Sunday 9-4:30 p

Integrating the body, heart and mind
    through Yoga, Mindfulness Meditation,
    Interpersonal Communication,
    and Emotional Work

Skillful yoga and Mindfulness meditation practices orient our center of gravity in the center of our being, aligning our attention with our inner life, helping us relate to others and the world around us with more care and aliveness.

This workshop is intended to strengthen our capacity for clear and sustained body/mind integration within ourselves regardless of what is arising, as a means to deepen our integral connection with others.

Friday night is for those who are new to the Yin style as Sarah will focus on how to do this practice in a meditative, safe and appropriate way.

In the mornings, we will practice a 2 and 1/2 hour yin and yang (alignment based flow) asana practice, followed by a half hour meditation, conducted mainly in silence (Sarah will practice with us), to allow ourselves to fully inhabit our personal experience in our body and mind. (Please come with a basic understanding of these practices already and know that each person will be able to practice in a way that is appropriate for them).
After lunch, our afternoon will begin with exploring the foundations of mindfulness meditation through instruction and practice, followed by interpersonal dialogue, interspersed with moments of reconnecting back into meditation. These practices will often trigger insights into emotional patterns, and we will work with these issues using visualization toward the end of each day.

You can think of this weekend as a nonresidential retreat, allowing you to realign with an invigorated, compassionate and wise attitude toward yourself so that you can authentically carry your connectedness and insights off the mat into a meaningful and intimate attitude toward daily living.

    Schedule Saturday and Sunday:
    9-12 Asana and Meditation
12-1 Lunch (please bring some food with you so you can
stay close by and in silence. Note: it is
fine to bring one of the recommended books
with you to read during the lunch break).
    1-1:30 Savasana
    1:30-4:30 Meditation/Interpersonal Communication/
    emotional work using visualization

the bandhas in asana, with doug keller, $85

    Saturday, April 5 2008
(categories: Events, energy, asana, healing, philosophy, series)

    saturday, april 5, 2-6 pm

    2008keller3.jpg

Join area master yogi Doug Keller for a strong asana class directed toward developing more awareness of the bandhas in your body as you move from pose to pose. The focus of the workshop is to develop the use of the bandhas as keys to strength and alignment as you move from pose to pose.

Doug will first describe the actions and effects of each of the bandhas physically and energetically. The bandhas are simple yet powerful muscular actions in the area of the pelvic floor (mula), lower abdominals (uddiyana), head, neck and shoulders (jalandhara) — which align these key areas, providing optimal strength, support, protection to the joints, as well as freedom in both the supple physical movement of vinyasa and the subtleties of the breath. In the case of pranayama and meditation, the bandhas support greater and more extended periods of stillness and concentration. Some simple exercises will be introduced to support your practice of the bandhas as part of this introduction.

Then he’ll lead a vinyasa-based asana class that will incorporate the bandhas into the weave of breath and movement. The basic exercises for the bandhas will be incorporated into the flow. The original texts of hatha yoga cite the bandhas as being crucial to having a fruitful asana practice.

This workshop will help you examine the powerfully supportive qualities of these bandhas in your own body. The extended length of the workshop will allow time to end with a period of guided (seated) pranayama techniques and meditation which incorporate the actions of the bandhas. advanced beginners to intermediate students.
