What is herbalism?

Herbalism is the study and practice of plant medicine; plants are used to treat the whole person to enhance wellness. Botanical medicines have been used since prehistory to nurture and revitalize the human body, and herbs are especially pertinent in our modern, fast-paced lives to restore balance. As medicine, plants support our innate capacity for healing, shifting the body back into harmony with nature. A clinical herbalist is trained to tailor herbs to suit the client as an individual; ultimately the herbalist matches people to plants.

What to expect during a consultation:

The initial consult is 1 ½ to 2 hours and is designed as a time to gather information about your health and wellness. The intention is to create a space to discuss concerns and create goals for the future. During the session organ systems, lifestyle, and diet are reviewed to get a clear vision of your unique constitution. Traditional diagnostic techniques such as pulse and tongue reading will also be implemented. The intention is not to diagnose disease but to explore areas of your health which can be enhanced. At the end of this visit, herbal and dietary / lifestyle recommendations are made with the intention of empowering self-care. Follow-up visits are assessed according to goals and are 1 hour in length.
